Bulletin 2015-2022

On Monday, December 7th 2015, at approximately 8:25pm a male subject wearing a motorcycle helmet, entered a retail jewellery store located in Woodgrove Centre, Nanaimo, British Columbia.

It is alleged that the subject began smashing glass jewellery showcases and scooped gold jewellery into a duffle bag he had with him.  Shoppers and bystanders on at least two occasions during this event, attempted to detain him and were eventually successful in doing so, keeping him subdued until the Police arrived.  All of the stolen jewellery was returned to the jeweller.

Craig Edward Truckle, aged 30 of Nanaimo, British Columbia has been charged with theft over $5,000.00 and committing an indictable offence while wearing a mask.  He was held in custody until his next court appearance.

Thankfully, no one was physically injured during this event.  Law Enforcement agencies do not, and Jewellers Vigilance Canada does not recommend this type of inter-action.  The alleged thief could very well have been armed with a deadly weapon.
