Distraction Theft Sault Ste Marie
Jan 13, 2018
Bulletin 2018-2332

All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

On January 13th 2018, two men entered a retail jewellery store in Station Mall Sault Ste Marie Ontario. They asked to see numerous men's gold chains and bracelets. At the end of the presentation the men declared they wanted to purchase 4 items and asked that they be placed into only one necklace box. This was to make it easier for the men to take it on the plane back to Spain. As the items were being rung through the register they produced a stack of crisp $100 bills in both US and Canadian currencies. As they discussed the exchange rates with one Team Member, the other Team Member was asked to show them the items again. The box was handed back to the Team Member  and the men decided they did not want to fill out the required FINTRAC form so they left to obtain another form of payment. It was only after they left the store, staff realized one chain was missing.  If you have any information on these men call your local police and refer to Sault Ste Marie report # SM 180000994.
